A Busy Weekend

First we stopped to wish mom and dad a happy 67th anniversary Dad was a little tired Friday morning but he knew that it was their anniversary She is still pretty

We then went into LaGrange to see Lena and Adam. Saturday morning was Lena's midwife appointment in Geneva. So after that we decided to head over to Little Traveler. Little Traveler is a shopping place all in an extended old house with little shops of all kinds and restaraunts. We all remember many many fun times there with mom as it was one of her favorite places to go. Wish you could have been with us, Mom!!

This is the old hospital in Geneva where Doug was born. It has been added on to and is now little upscale shops.

On Sunday we all got together in Valparaiso, Indiana. Alex was in from Montana for a wedding with his family. We were able to all meet and get a family picture. This is our oldest grandchild, Steve.

Dad's hand surgery

Dad had a swelling on the palm of his left hand right beneath his ring finger. It was getting larger so it was decided that he needed surgery to see what it was. The surgery went well and it was nothing serious--just opened it and drained it. Somehow the surgery caused him to be more confused and he even became incontinent for a few days (not even caring). The doctor decided that it was caused from the drugs used during the surgery and that he would return to normal. This he did. He is his old self once again--A little nervous, like a young child, about having the stitches removed.."It is going to hurt--I just know it will hurt" he kept saying as the nurse prepared to cut the stitches and remove them. After it was all over he said,"Well, at least I didn't faint!" He was a real trooper.

There was a group of people there the day dad and I went to have his stitches removed playing recorders. I had never seen such large recorders. The sound was lovely.

Mom was really a happy lady and she looks so pretty. She has gotten some new clothes as the old ones were getting a bit snug!!

Mom is happy nearly all the time now--there is a new male resident, Bob. He is lots of fun and teases mom which makes her laugh. Bob told me he hates "this place" and is getting out SOON.

I suppose this is how all the men react to their loss of freedom. I will have to get a photo of him for my next post.

Winter 2011

Well, it is winter in Michigan. Mom and Dad are warm

and cozy

I thought I'd go over to Red Park today

and check up on our cottage, the Wigwam.

Dad is always so concerned that it is being

properly taken care of.

I don't think too much mail is being delivered.

Dad and mom met here in Michigan when they were just teenagers. This is the cottage were Dad and his brother spent summers with their grandmother. Their sister,MaryLou, was 8 years younger than dad, but I'm sure she became a big part of the summer fun.

No sitting and looking out at the lake for quite some time.

There are ice fishing shanties out on the lake now--if you look real hard you may be able to see some of them. We have never gone ice fishing but we have shoveled snow off of the lake here and done some ice skating!
