Barbara Mary Probeck August 2, 1922-January 31, 2013

It's been 5 years since mom passed away from Alzheimer's Disease.
I had been in Illinois helping Lena as she had just given birth to Ezra. When I got the call that mom only had a few days left I couldn't travel as there was a snow storm brewing. Bad weather was everywhere so none of us could get to Michigan to be with her. Only my husband, Doug, was there with her. He held her hand as we each called and he placed the phone next to her ear so we were all able to say, "goodbye". I hope she heard our love for her and our gratitude for her devotion to all of us.
She had hidden the Alzheimer's so well that only the last 5 years of the disease affected the rest of us. At the same time dad had what the doctors referred to as, "old age dementia". He couldn't even help mom to understand what was happening to her, but they were together. Their long marriage and happy family strengthened them through to the end.
Even at the last mom would smile when I would visit. She didn't really know me as her daughter, but she knew I was her constant visitor. I've written her story throughout this blog. I miss her every day. I guess that is the way it is with having had a loving mother. Her tenderness and happy ways have influenced me in my homemaking and family. I hope my children and grandchildren will remember me as fondly as I remember and long for her.

Ezra Charles Meade January 26, 2013

EZRA CHARLES MEADE  JANUARY 26, 2013

Anna was home from college so she was able to go with me to help Lena when Ezra was born. He was such a good baby and Samuel was a very proud big brother.

He was so adorable and he still is the very sweetest boy!

l

Ezra was 6 months old when Anna went to visit before her marriage. She and Lena had an enjoyable time together.

Samuel loves his little brother, Ezra.

Ezra loved his crib and slept in it for a long time. Even after he could easily climb out of it.

Boxes are fun!!

HIS FIRST BIRTHDAY!

HAPPY 5TH BIRTHDAY, EZRA
WE LOVE YOU

Snow

This year so far has delivered an abundance of snow and very cold temperatures!

Our dog, Scout, is an old guy and needs a coat or he hesitates to venture out.

Our family got together in Illinois after Christmas, however we missed it because of the storm that was hitting our area and south all along Lake Michigan!
Doug and I can't risk driving in a blizzard anymore. We hated to miss seeing everyone. Alex was there with his family from Montana!
Joe, Lena, Alex and Nathanael

The kids with their spouses. Liz, Adam, Krisitn and Christy!

10 of our 15 grandchildren!
Abby and Rebecca from Montana

My father-in-law who is 93 years old found this Nature Preserve one day many years ago when he was out walking. He was instrumental in getting the area protected. Hence, it is named after him.
